Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer Comparison
There has been some confusion about the differences between the Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer and the KYK Harmony. This post is solely for the purposes of clearing up that confusion.
First off, both machines are five electrode systems. This means that each uses five electrodes that are connected to five platinized titanium plates. The difference lies in the size and thickness of the plates. The KYK Harmony plates are nearly twice the size (20 cm by 7cm) of those in the Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer and are also thicker.
Water ionizers come in three electrode and five electrode system with one company, the Enagic Kangen Water Ionizer, boasting seven electrodes. Three electrode systems are generally too weak to ionize US water effectively because the water here is generally hard, meaning it has a high TDS and the magnesium and calcium have combined to form scale. So, you need the five electrode systems to get a high alkaline pH with a strong negative ORP, which is the antioxidant level of the water.
Another key difference between the Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer and the KYK Harmony is the electrical system. The Jupiter Melody uses a traditional transformer based electrical system just like most other water ionizers on the market. A transformer produces heat and heat related stress can, overtime, pit the platinized titanium plates. The KYK Harmony is the first water ionizer on the US market to solve this problem by creating the SMPS electrical system, the first system to not use a transformer, thus the KYK Harmony runs much cooler, extending the lifespan of the plates. You can also run your KYK Harmony for forty minutes at a time without worrying about overheating whereas any other water ionizer can only be run for 10-15 minutes.
The SMPS electrical system is also the first electrical system that can adjust its ionization to the input water, creating smoother and more consistent ionization. When water is detected, it is measured for its TDS (total dissolved solids), and then the KYK Harmony enters a working stage where it adjusts its ionization based on that measurement, so when you program in a 9.5 pH, it will work on the water until it achieves that 9.5pH, if it’s possible with your water.
More key differences between the Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer and the KYK Harmony are in their functioning. The Jupiter Melody has seven preset pH levels, the KYK Harmony is adjustable to as many as 64 using the + and - keys. You can also adjust the ORP of your water independently of the pH with the KYK Harmony, so you can create the pH and ORP level that works best for you.
Both machines use a colored screen, however the KYK Harmony is the only one to display the pH and ORP of the water on that screen. Both machines use a mineral port for forced dissolution of minerals for those of you who have minerally deficient water, like up in Canada, the North East and North West US.
Finally, the KYK Harmony measures the actual liters of water filtered making a more accurate filter life indicator, whereas the Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer and most other water ionizers use a timer.
We hope this blog post clears up some of the confusion that has been spreading about the KYK Harmony and how it relates to the Jupiter Melody. Please call us if you have any questions.
